Red Flags are back on TikTok, and this is the perfect way to introduce themes present in The Great Gatsby before students dive into the first chapter. Students are introduced to "Red Flags" and "Green Flags" as an idiom, and will first brainstorm their own ideas about where they notice these ideas in their world. Next, students are given a series of scenarios that a relevant to events that happen in The Great Gatsby where they have to choose whether a situation is a "Red Flag" or "Green Flag" by adding their own gif, and defend their stance. (No text spoilers, just sneak peaks:)
Scenarios include:
-They host parties every weekend
-They call you by a nickname they came up with
-They hold onto the past
-Money money money!
-They are indecisive
-They drive fast
-and more engaging topics!
There are also 3 reflection questions to help students think about how their perspectives contribute to their answers.
*Teachers* There is also an option for you to add in your own "Red Flags" and "Green Flags" to get students to know you better! I'm telling you, they are going to eat this upppppp!!
This activity is perfect for introverts and extroverts alike, getting students to engage with a variety of scenarios and make immediate connections between relatable ideas and a classic text.
Notice: The introductory slides explaining "Red Flags" and "Green Flags" are the same for each Red Flag Edition, but the scenarios are different in each collection.
