Listen...I am not a fan of that "musical shares" icebreaker game. But as an introverted/extroverted teacher, THIS is how I will be helping my students get to know each other, share interests, and build an unstoppable classroom community.
There are 7 categories to choose (or include them ALL)
Off to the Movies + Entertainment
Food and Beverage
Personality and Hobbies
Travel and Lifestyle
School and Learning
Nostalgia and Childhood
WILD CARD
Each category has scenarios that represent the theme of the category. Students read the scenario question and drop an image or text that represents their answer.
Example: Category "WILD CARD" Scenario: "If you were a flavor of potato chip, what flavor would you be?"
Students can insert a photo of "Cool Ranch Doritos."
BONUS: Students also learn how to insert photos in Google Slides so they are ready to use this skill for presentations throughout the year. Win-Win!
THEN play "musical shares" and have students mingle to music. Stop the music at random, and instead of having students pair up and talk awkwardly to each other on the spot, call out a category/scenario. Have students "FLIP" and show their partner their answer. Repeat with how much time you have in class.
